Definition

Firstly, what is project management? In order to answer this we need to define what a project is. Projects are temporary group activities designed to produce a defined product, service or outcome. A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end in time, therefore defined scope and resources. They vary in size and complexity but in essence, they are defined in that they have a specific set of outcomes to achieve within the four constraints of time, cost, quality and scope. Our Approach

Project management processes fall into five groups:

(1) Initiating

(2) Planning

(3) Executing

(4) Monitoring and Controlling

(5) Closing

Various standard methodologies have been developed that cover these processes in different ways to handle different types of project. The most common is PRINCE2® which is the dominant recognised qualification in the UK, PMP® (Project Management Professional).  This is the US counterpart to Prince2, Agile, Scrum, FDD (Feature Driven Development), DSDM (Dynamic Systems Development), ASD (Adaptive Software Development), RUP (Rational Unified Process). The list goes on.

In addition, many organisations have developed their own methodologies which are derivatives of one or more of the standard methodologies. For example, where some organisations may have the same methodology, there is a level of maturity in the way these methodologies are applied.

With this varying landscape, it’s no wonder business stakeholders find projects frustrating.

Acceler8 Consultancy cuts through all this by using a simple Project Management Framework© (or PM Framework©) that is compatible to any methodology. With this in mind, the methodology can be applied to the maturity level that best suits an organisation’s culture.
